The season has officially started. Flugbjörgunarsveitin á Hellu flagged in the summer at 11:00 am this morning. We had 6 tracks for each class and 20 drivers that showed up. The race went on smoothly and all according to plan and it was brilliant to see that it was well over 5000 spectators. The tracks were hard and challenging and it was fantastic to see how the drivers conquered the obstacles that the organisers put in place.

The winner of the Unlimited class was Þór Þormar Pálsson that drives the mean thunder-god THOR. It took him some time to gain his momentum but after his brilliant run on the river he gained the first place. Not only did he snatched the gold but he set the World Record on the river by running over it at 102 km/h (63 m/h). It was truly UNBELIEVABLE! Not only did he get the gold today but was Best in Show for his stunt on the River. If you weren’t there to witness it just wait to see it on Jakob C site.

The audience clearly saw that legend Gísli G. Jónsson hasn’t forgotten a thing when it comes to driving on Hella. Its been 10 years since the champ raced in those hill last time. It was stunning to see how the old car and the old man (if we may call him old 😉 ) still work together like it was just yesterday! Árni Kópsson showed up as well after declaring he would break the previous record on the river that was 87km/h set by Guðbjörn Grímsson in 2014, and he did. He managed to cross the river at 89km/h keeping his word. Little did he know that Þór would go mental and cross it at 102.
In the Street Legal class the winner was Eðvald Orri Guðmundsson on the car Pjakkurinn. The day didn’t start up so well for him. He rolled over and damaged the car but managed to pull on through and snatched up the trophy at last!!! It was crazy watching him work his way up the scoreboard. Congratulations! :D. Steingrímur Bjarnason was the Best in Show in the Street Legal Class.

Gestur J. Ingólfsson left every single person that was watching in awe when he ran down the river on only TWO WHEELS! We’ve never seen anything like this before! For that crazy stunt he won the KFC award of the year!
We cannot go through this without mentioning the teenage driver Guðmundur Elíasson that drove Rodeo [Ótemjan]. He just got his driver’s license few days ago and managed to follow the other drivers by a hair! He deserves his shoutout for his brilliant performance today!
We cannot be more happy with the day over all! Thank you all who showed up at the race! Thank you all teams that participated! Thank you Flugbjörgunarsveitin á Hellu for a fantastic kick off of the Season!!!
